Genetic Resources Division
The Genetic Resources Division (GRD) houses the PhilRice Genebank. PhilRice Genebank safeguards huge and diverse rice germplasm, which is critical in achieving Philippine Development Plan to reduce poverty, improved food and nutrition security. PhilRice Genebank is the national repository of rice genetic resources which consists of traditional cultivars, farmers’ selections, elite breeding materials, foreign introductions and wild rice relatives. These germplasm are important for direct-use to farmers, and in breeding, genetic and physiological studies leading to the development of high-quality rice varieties. PhilRice Genebank leads the collecting mission and ex-situ conservation based on international genebank standards.
