We are the Philippines' national repository of traditional, modern,
and elite breeding rice varieties, dedicated to collecting , conserving,
and delivering high-quality germplasm resources and information.
The Oryza Germplasm Management System (Oryza GEMS) is a centralized platform designed to document, manage, and streamline data on all germplasm conserved in the Genebank. It integrates comprehensive information, including passport data, morpho-agronomic characterization, grain quality traits, biotic and abiotic stress evaluations, seed viability conditions, and inventory records. Through validated and up-to-date rice germplasm information, Oryza GEMS enhances efficiency in data search and retrieval, ensuring seamless access to vital germplasm information for research, breeding, and conservation efforts.
The GeneLytics portal is an advanced tool for visualizing, exploring, and analyzing germplasm data stored in Oryza GEMS. Designed to support researchers and plant breeders, it facilitates rice genetic research and streamlines the pre-breeding parental selection process. With built-in methods for diversity and frequency analysis, GeneLytics enables users to efficiently analyze germplasm of interest. The system generates outputs in various formats, including graphs and maps, providing comprehensive insights for genetic research and breeding programs.
The Genetic Resources Division (GRD) manages the PhilRice Genebank, the national repository of rice genetic resources. Tasked with safeguarding a vast and diverse collection of rice germplasm, the Genebank preserves traditional cultivars, farmers' selections, elite breeding materials, foreign introductions, and wild rice relatives. Beyond conservation, the PhilRice Genebank actively leads collecting missions and upholds ex-situ preservation efforts, ensuring that these invaluable genetic resources are maintained in accordance with international genebanking standards. Through its commitment to genetic diversity, the Genebank supports sustainable rice production, food security, and agricultural resilience.
